Donald Dickie was born in New Zealand and is one of only a few Maori Australians to have played in the SANFL and AFL.
Dickie had played for several other clubs before arriving at Norwood in 1996.
He began his football career with Smithfield, north of Adelaide, prior to joining Central District’s Under 17’s. After spending some time in the Border Districts in south-east South Australia, he joined Sturt in 1993, where he played four league games. In 1994, Dickie did a pre-season with Port Adelaide Magpies and followed that with a stint at Riverton Football Club.
