Jimmy Liebelt started with the junior colts and was named best forward in 1950. The following season he was rated most effective for the senior colts. Playing reserves by 1952, Liebelt was named best team man in 1953, and most improved in 1954.
He struggled to hold down a regular position in the league side in his first three seasons and hence only played a total of 10 league games. That changed in 1957 when he settled into a back pocket, made 20 senior appearances, and was rewarded with Norwood’s most improved player award.
