Todd Davey was born in Adelaide and his family moved to Sydney when he was four years old. He played rugby league at school and junior football for Pennant Hills, and the Sydney Swans under 19 team.
He returned to Adelaide from Sydney at the start of 1992, eventually deciding to play for Woodville-West Torrens ahead of the Redlegs. Davey had played Teal Cup for NSW in Darwin and had impressed Norwood’s secretary, Glen Rosser.
