Norwood chalked up a second consecutive win to start the SANFLW Development League season with a 32-point victory over Glenelg at Richmond Oval on Saturday.
The Redlegs held the ascendancy for most of the game, with a superb defensive display paving the way for the 6.4-40 to 1.2-8 win.
The ball lived almost exclusively in Norwood’s half in the first term on the back of some outstanding tackling pressure that resulted in several holding-the-ball free kicks.
A terrific smother and follow-up tackle from Alice Winter led to Norwood’s first goal from Jiarna Zerella just before quarter time.
After withstanding a series of Glenelg attacks to start the second term, Norwood had its second major when Winter kicked a classy goal following a surging run from Sharmaine Crosby.
Winter soon added another after earning a holding-the-ball free kick in the forward pocket, finishing off a slick transition play from the Redlegs.
Norwood goaled immediately upon the resumption of play in the third quarter, with Hannah Bentley following up her own ruck work to send a long ball inside 50 where Isabella Calvanese applied a strong tackle and kicked truly.
Elke Cameron put the result beyond all doubt midway through the last quarter with a clean pick-up and goal from close range, before Lottie Almond capped off a wonderful piece of team football with a running shot from 30m.
Norwood next face South Adelaide at Noarlunga on Saturday, 15 March from 4:00pm in Round 3 of the SANFLW Development League. The Panthers are also undefeated to start the Development League season.
