Redlegs rescue draw against Double Blues

Norwood has drawn their second game of season 2020 after coming from behind the share the points with Sturt on Sunday afternoon.

In wet conditions the Redlegs had their chances to win the game and help seal a finals spot in season 2020, however, ultimately fell short but managed to share the points to go three points clear of the fifth-placed Double Blues.

Captain Ali Ferrall gave Norwood the perfect start as she made no mistake of her set shot from 25 metres out before Sturt kicked their first goal of the contest to head into the break with a one-point lead.

The Redlegs generated the first four shots on goal early in the second, however, were not able to capitalise and gather any scoreboard pressure.

With all of Norwood dominance, the Sturt defence stood tall repelling countless attacks which saw a scoreless quarter of football with Norwood ahead by three points at the main break.

Sturt drew first blood in the third as a kick around the corner saw the ball shepherded over the line to see give the Double Blues a four-point lead.

Georgia Bevan then popped up from 35 metres out to send the ball home and extend Sturts margin to eight-points as the game approached three-quarter time.

With all to play for in the last, the Redlegs could not capitalise on their opportunities early to cut the margin to six-points with nine minutes of game time to be played.

As the clock started to countdown Ferrall found the ball on the half forward flank to send the ball in with the hopes of someone bringing down a mark to save the game from defeat.

As the ball fell it was Kate Fenton who reacted best as she pinned Sturts defender in a tackle which saw her throw the ball as the siren sounded.

Fenton as cool as you like, held her nerve to nurse the ball through the goals to rescue the points on the brink of defeat.

The Legs will now face West Adelaide at Thebarton Oval on Saturday afternoon as they aim to keep hold fourth spot and go equal third with the Bloods.
