Several Norwood young guns will suit up for South Australia over this weekend.
The AFL National U16 Championship will kick off on Sunday in Perth with SA taking on WA at Mineral Resources Park (1:30pm SA time).
Norwood U16s Jim Kelly, Jeff Rozenbilds and Will Prescott have been named in the SA U16s team. Kelly on the wing, Rozenbilds back pocket and Prescott forward pocket.
Kelly has averaged 23 disposals, four tackles and four clearances for Norwood this season, Prescott has averaged two goals and four marks, and Rozenbilds 26 disposals, four marks and a goal a game.
The SA U18 Girls will play Victoria Metro and Queensland in July, but will take on the SA U23 Women in a match at Thebarton Oval this Sunday.
Named in the U18 squad is Norwood’s Coby Morgan and Molly Brooksby.
Tahlita Buethke, Lana Schwerdt, Alana Lishmund and Tesharna Maher will don the SA colours in the U23 team.
Sixteen-year-old Morgan was an outstanding contributor for Norwood in the 2023 SANFLW season, playing 13 League matches and kicking six goals, while 17-year-old Brooksby made a big impact in the back half of the season when she returned from injury.
Brooksby played six games, averaging 15 disposals and four tackles. She had a 26-disposal game against South Adelaide in Round 12.
Brooksby is part of the AFLW Academy, which played against the U23 All Stars, gathering 16 disposals and four marks in a narrow loss to the older side.
The AFL U18 Championships are ongoing with Logan Evans and Alex van Wyk representing SA throughout the event.
Norwood U18s Will Rowlands and Orlando Turner have represented the Allies throughout the tournament given their ties to the NT.
