Norwood’s Reserves side endured a 49-point defeat at the hands of South Adelaide at a windy Flinders University Stadium on Saturday.
It was a day to forget for the Redlegs, who were held goalless until the fourth quarter, before a flurry of five goals in the last quarter softened the blow in an otherwise disappointing day.
With a wind advantage in the first term, South started strongly and had all nine scoring shots in the first quarter, keeping the Redlegs scoreless and taking a 31-point lead in to quarter time 4.7 – 31 to 0.0 – 0.
The Redlegs were able to generate more opportunities in the second quarter, but failed to capitalise, adding four behinds as the Panthers kicked another three goals, extending their margin to 46-points at the main break 7.8–50 to 0.4–4.
South ran away with the game in the third quarter, piling on a further five unanswered goals to lead by 80-points at three quarter time.
Forward Lachlan Pascoe booted three goals in the final term as the Redlegs showed some fight to kick all five goals in the last quarter, but damage was well and truly done.
The Panthers controlled possession with 311–222 advantage in disposals, won the clearance battle 47–18 and inside 50m count 50–24.
Tristan Binder had 18 disposals and eight tackles to lead all Redlegs ball winners, whilst Harvey Pedler and Isaac Saywell had 16 each.
Harry Allen and Logan Evans were the other individual goal kickers.
