Norwood’s U18s and U16s will get their seasons underway this Saturday, with a road trip to North Adelaide’s mid-north regional zone.
The Redlegs will play the Roosters at Port Pirie’s Memorial Oval on March 23, with the U16s commencing at 11:50am, and the U18s from 2:10pm.
Norwood Talent Manager Craig Roberts said the Round 1 road trip was an exciting initiative for the junior program.
“Our club and particularly the players and coaches involved in the Port Pirie game are very excited,” he said.
“When given the opportunity by North Adelaide to play in their regional zone of the mid-north we jumped at it. Given the mid-north’s proximity to our neighbouring regional zone of the Eyre Peninsula it made a lot of sense for us.
“This also supports our Eyre Peninsula players and families. By bringing the game closer to our regional zone, it allows families to watch their boys play a little closer to home.
“We are big supporters of regional games to help promote football in our zones. Players from the Eyre Peninsula makes up a good portion of our squads, across our junior boys, senior men and senior women’s programs.
“Our boys are excited to start their season with a feature match.”
Norwood announced its U18 and U16 captains during the week, with Luke Scott to lead the U18 squad, while Blake Jones and Lachie Smith will lead the U16s as co-captains.
Riley Kirchhofer and Jake Hill are the U18 Vice Captains, while Tom Neal and Thomas Gribben round out the U16 leadership group.
It will also be the first time in a Norwood coaches box for U16 coach Chris Slattery, while U18 coach Alex Newell is entering his second season in charge.
Norwood’s U14s are also on the road for their Round 4 match against North Adelaide, taking on the Roosters at Memorial Oval in Whyalla at 11am on Sunday.
The Redlegs will field a team completely made up of Eyre Peninsula talent.
