SANFLW – 2019 Captains announced

Inaugural Redlegs SANFLW Captain Rebekka McMahon will be joined alongside 2018 runner up Best and Fairest, Leah Cutting as the first ever Women’s Co-Captains of the Norwood Football Club.

Allison Ferrall has been appointed vice-captain of the Lady Legs for the first time, while Jane Fitzgerald, Kate Fenton and Cassie Tsoumbris round out the leadership group.

The leadership group was elected on their values aligning with the squad’s trademarks and was endorsed by the coaching group and Club board.

Redlegs SANFLW coach Steve Symonds said it was great recognition for all six of the girls and is looking forward to having a different leadership setup in 2019.

“I think our leadership group has six great girls who have all been part of our program since day one,” Symonds said.

“All the girls understand the program very clearly and know exactly the direction we want to go in as a team.

“Each girl has a different personality and leadership trait which is a good blend to have across the board.”

2018 runner up Best and Fairest Leah Cutting said she was honoured to have been chosen to help lead the side in 2019.

“It’s an absolute honour to be Captain alongside Bek,” Cutting said.

“She’s led from the front for the first two seasons and I’ve learnt an incredible amount about the way she goes about leading the group.

“I feel like I can bring a certain level of experience having been in the leadership group at a local level.”

“Having been involved in the club for the first two seasons, I have a deep understanding of the clubs values and how we go about our footy.

“I’m looking forward to leading the group and portraying what the Norwood Football Club is all about.”

McMahon said she was privileged to lead the side again in 2019, and is looking forward to working with a new look leadership group.

“I am absolutely ecstatic about being co-captain in 2019,” said McMahon.

“Obviously I’m wrapped for the whole leadership group, but at the same time really honoured to be in this position again heading into a third year.”
