NORWOOD has unveiled its SANFLW player leadership group for the upcoming 2020 season, with newly-promoted captain Alison Ferrall to head up the five-player group.
Ferrall will be joined in the player leadership group by Vice-Captain Sophie Armitstead, Rebekka McMahon, Leah Cutting, and Cassie Tsoumbris.
Ferrall will lead the club’s SANFLW side for the first time in 2020. A well-respected individual, Ferrall’s contribution, dedication and leadership both on and off the field is highly regarded by her teammates and coaches.
The 30-year-old has played 17 SANFLW games for Norwood since making her debut in 2018.
Ferrall, said she was honoured to be elected as the third ever women’s Captain of the Norwood Football Club.
“I’m extremely honoured to lead this fantastic club in 2020,” said Ferrall.
“Bek and Leah have done an amazing job as leaders in the past three years and I know how big the responsibility is.
“As a person, I’m looking forward to growing into the role amongst nurturing and developing younger players coming through.
“As a whole I’m honoured and humbled to take on this job and can’t wait to get started.”
Former Crow Sophie Armitstead will be a welcome addition to the leadership group after featuring prominently for Norwood in 2019.
The newly appointed Vice-Captain was a consistent performer in her first year at the Parade, playing every game averaging 13.8 disposals.
The 25-year old will look to mentor the younger crop of players coming through, while continuing to lead the girls with her fierce determination as an inside midfielder.
2019 Co-captains Leah Cutting and Rebekka McMahon will continue to provide support in the leadership group, while consistent performer Cassie Tsoumbris will continue for a second consecutive year.
Women’s Football Coach Chris Howie said the new group reflects the expectations and values that the SANFLW group has established over the past three seasons.
“The Lady Legs leadership group Ali Ferrall, Sophie Armitstead, Bek McMahon, Leah Cutting and Cassie Tsoumbris provide our training and playing group with a wealth of experience, mentoring and stability of structure that bodes well for the 2020 season,” said Howie.
“The players have done a lot of work together across the pre-season in setting expectations around our values, which formed the basis for the players when voting.
“We look forward to seeing these girls lead our club in Season 2020.”
