Norwood will face West Adelaide at Coopers Stadium in its Round 11 SANFLW match tomorrow night (Friday, May 12).
With Norwood’s League side playing West Adelaide in Port Lincoln on Saturday, the SANFLW match will follow Norwood’s Reserves clash against the Bloods at The Parade tomorrow (5.10pm), while the Redlegs U18 and U16s take on Westies in Richmond on Saturday.
This will prove to be a big fixture for Norwood’s SANFLW side as they hope to lock in a 2023 finals berth.
Norwood sits third on the ladder with two matches to go (against the Bloods and South Adelaide in Round 12). The top four progress through to finals, with the top two gaining a double chance.
The Redlegs have a win-loss record of 6-4, winning six of their last seven games following a 0-3 start to the season.
South sit on top on the ladder at 8-2, followed by Central District 7-3 and Norwood 6-4. Norwood’s greatest challengers are Sturt and Glenelg who sit fourth and fifth at 5-5 and also reigning premiers North Adelaide knocking on the door at 4-6.
A win against eighth-placed West Adelaide is crucial for Norwood this Friday, ahead of its final minor round game against the Panthers, which will decide final finishing places.
The Redlegs narrowly defeated the Bloods in Round 6, 5.3-33 to 3.9-27.
Coming back into the side this week (extended bench) is Stephanie Simmonds, Grace Whittaker, Millie Yardley, Emma Clark and Erika Sporn. Shai Hiscock is out of the team (personal).
Given the close nature of the Round 6 clash, Norwood can’t afford to take last-placed West Adelaide lightly who have a 2-7-1 win-loss-draw record in 2023.
Norwood took on the seventh-placed Eagles in Round 10, narrowly sneaking over the line by eight points.
Sturt have a challenge ahead in Round 11, taking on South Adelaide, while Glenelg faces North Adelaide in another must-win game for both teams.
