A disappointing day out for what promised to be a good contest. Leading into the game we were coming off three solid wins, so our form was great coming up against the unbeaten Sturt.
The game was played in two halves, we started out well winning plenty of the footy and giving ourselves opportunities up forward but unfortunately failing to capitalise. Our clearance work was good, but we struggled to connect between the arcs to allow multiple penetrations going forward.
As the half progressed the momentum swung in Sturt’s favour and our defence was put under extreme pressure. Whilst they held strong for the most part, Sturt were able to score two goals to our one by the main break which saw us trail by 8-points.
After the break, Sturt turned up the heat winning the bulk of the contested and uncontested footy. Whilst we battled hard, we could not match the run and momentum which was firmly with them. From the midpoint of the third quarter, they took complete control and kicked eight unanswered goals. Our girls fought it out and peppered the goals in the last without scoring a major and eventually going down by 52 points. Less than ideal but a lot to learn from it.
Norwood will now enjoy a break before facing North Adelaide on Friday, March 18.
