The Lady Legs had it all to play for in the final minor round game of the season, with a place in the finals on the line. All that was needed was a win.
In greasy and wet conditions, goals were hard to come by. The contest was hard fought early on and highly contested. It took until the 13-minute mark when Steph Simmonds got a boot to ball out of a pack to score the first goal of the game. South hit back quickly with two of their own to open up a small lead heading into the first break.
From this point forward it all went downhill for the Lady Legs, South Adelaide’s pressure, intensity, and willingness to get more numbers around the contest ensured they had the upper hand that restricted our girls from getting any clean transition going forward.
South was much cleaner by hand and foot and appeared to be running on top of the ground, being able to move the ball will ease. A goal to South mid-way through the second and another shortly after the main break pushed the lead out to 22-points. It was a bridge too far in the conditions, no further goals were scored after the three-minute mark of the third. A ring of changes was made but no matter what was tried the Lady Legs were no match.
The Lady Legs were completely dominated on the outside of the contest being -38 in uncontested possessions, along with poor disposal being +25 in turnovers, this went a long way to the girls going down by 25-points.
A disappointing way to finish, as expectations were much higher. There were, however, several positives to take away from the season with the further development of our junior players along with the introduction of the Development League showcasing up and coming talent, the future looks bright.
