SANFLW Match Report: Norwood claim minor Premiership

NORWOOD has claimed the 2021 SANFLW minor Premiership after a thrilling three-point victory against Centrals on Friday night.

Jumping out of the blocks with a four-goal first quarter, the Redlegs were able to cling on after Bulldog Katelyn Rosenzweig missed a chance to put her team in front with less than 10 seconds left.

After a fast start, the Redlegs were held goalless in the second term as they held a nine-point lead at the main break.

The third term opened for both sides with the Dogs drawing first blood three minutes in. Despite Norwood conceding the first of the quarter, their midfield continued to gather large amounts of the football as Najwa Allen and Leah Cutting continued to dominate the stoppages.

In form forward Rosette Zerella handed Norwood a steadier in the 13th minute of the quarter, however it was cancelled out on the stroke of three-quarter time by Chloe Scheer.

Liz Drake popped up to kick her second and Norwood first of the final term, however, Centrals were not to be denied as Rosenzweig kicked her second with the match going down to the wire.

Fortunately, Norwood was able to hold on as they came away with a vital three-point victory and the right to a home final in Season 2021.

Najwa Allen had a positive influence on the outcome with 18 disposals and a goal, while Elizabeth Drake and Rosette Zerella each booted two goals for the hosts.

With the minor Premiership all but sealed the Legs travel to Glenelg this weekend in the last minor round game of 2021.
