Senior Men’s Pre-Christmas Update

Norwood Football Club General Manager of Football Richard Kelly would like to provide an update on the Senior Men’s pre-season during the final week of training in 2024.

The Senior Men’s pre-Christmas training program will wrap up on Thursday, December 19 with an open training session at Coopers Stadium (Premiers Bar Open from 4pm, Training 5:30pm, Bistro Meals available).

Training commenced on December 2, and the boys have worked incredibly hard on their fundamentals and conditioning. They will be ready for a break over the Christmas period, before returning to pre-season training on January 13, 2025 where the group with continue to work on their conditioning and game plan.

Coaching staff have been impressed with the group’s attitude to training with more than 60 players out on the track, including several train on players, players heading into their first year on a senior list, and current U18s have a chance to train with the senior group.

In a list management update, Harry Boyd (St Kilda) and Baynen Lowe (Fremantle) have been training with respective AFL clubs. While it’s yet to be made official by St Kilda, it’s been reported that Boyd is on the verge of signing with Saints, while Lowe has returned to Norwood.

Nik Rokahr has relocated back to SA, and Norwood continues to communicate with WAFL club Swan District where the midfielder is currently still contracted for next season.

The club has also received a commitment from a ruckman, 22-year-old former Sydney Swans ruck in Lachlan McAndrew. McAndrew is currently training with the Adelaide Crows following the news that their ruckman Kieran Strachan sustained a foot injury. Strachan is expected to spend four months on the sidelines with the stress fracture in his foot.

Tasmanians Jack Aherne, Mitch Nicholas and Khalen Matthews have been training with Norwood throughout the pre-season and two further Tasmanians, brothers Liam and Connor Ling have just relocated to South Australia and we are hopeful they will join the group in 2025.

The club also welcomes Daniel Gauci, midfielder from Giants Academy.

On behalf of the footy department, we thank you for all the support during the 2024 season, the boys are ready for a well-earned break over the Christmas period before they hit the ground running early in 2025.
