Stephens Sweats on AFL Draft

By ZAC MILBANK

Norwood’s Dylan Stephens has revealed he still has no idea on where he will land in the AFL Draft beginning on Wednesday night.

The SANFL player most likely to be chosen first at Marvel Stadium has been heavily slated to go at No.6 to Adelaide while Fremantle and Carlton have also been mentioned as suitors inside the top 10.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, the hard-running midfielder admitted he had received no further contact from the Crows in the wake of their recent pick swap with GWS which resulted in them falling back in the order from No.4 to No.6.

One of just two Croweaters – along with the Eagles’ Kysaiah Pickett – invited to the first round call of the AFL Draft, Stephens reiterated that he would love to remain in SA should he be picked by the Crows, or even the Power at No.13.

Studying Commerce at the University of South Australia this year, Stephens said he had also been working hard on improving aspects of his game after a strong finish to the year in Norwood’s Statewide Super League team.

Running patterns have been a key focus for the left-footer, who is eager to use more of his explosive power around the stoppages, not just his admirable endurance.

Measuring in at 183cm, Stephens has been likened to West Coast star Andrew Gaff but it is GWS midfielder Josh Kelly who he has based his game on throughout his development with the Redlegs.
