The Norwood Football Club would like to thank Alex van Wyk, who will be departing the club this off-season to seek further opportunities at League level.
van Wyk advised the club that he’s made the decision to pursue a number-one ruck role at a rival SANFL club in 2025.
While he’s yet to debut at SANFL level, van Wyk was often on the cusp of senior selection over the past two years through his good form at Reserves level. However, the form and durability of 2024 Magarey Medallist and dual Club Champion Harry Boyd meant he was starved of an opportunity to ruck at League level.
The 20-year-old van Wyk won the 2024 Norwood Reserves Best and Fairest (making it back to back Reserves B&Fs), and last month was an integral member of the club’s Reserves Grand Final victory over Sturt.
Norwood coach Jade Rawlings thanked van Wyk for his services to the senior program across the last two seasons, and wished him all the best for the future.
“Alex has been a really important part of what we have been about as a footy club over the last couple of years,” Rawlings said.
“He’s improved his footy significantly, and while we are disappointed to lose him we support his decision given that he’s striving to play senior footy – it makes it hard for him with The Team of the Year ruckman at our club at the prime of his career.
“We are disappointed to see him go, but we understand his reasons.”
