Norwood U18s back on the winners list

Darcy Speyer was best on ground for Norwood's U18s in a 45-point win over South Adelaide in Noarlunga.

Norwood’s U18s have snapped a four-game losing streak to power past South Adelaide at Noarlunga on Saturday, claiming a 45-point victory in Round 17.

First year U18 Darcy Speyer was again outstanding with a best on ground 29 disposals, while Kristian Gould kicked four goals for the Redlegs in a 13.6-84 to 5.9-39 win.

Norwood got off top a good start, kicking the only two goals of the first term to take a 13-point lead into quarter time.

South Adelaide kicked the first goal of the second quarter, before Norwood found the next four unanswered through Fergus Myall, Gould (two) and James van Wyk to go into half time 29 points in front, holding the Panthers to one goal.

South responded with the first two goals of the second half, coming within two minutes of each other to reduce the margin to a nervous 16 points.

From there the Redlegs were outstanding, running away with seven of the last nine goals to secure a well-earnt breakthrough victory away from home.

State U18 representative Ned Bowman kicked three goals and gathered 16 disposals, six marks and five tackles.

Norwood finishes its U18 and U16 campaign against Sturt in Unley on Saturday in what will be a challenging task, as the Double Blues sit in the top three of both competitions.

The Redlegs had a tough day in the U16s on Saturday, coming up against the second placed Panthers with an undermanned side.

Norwood suffered its biggest loss of the U16 season, going down 26.21-177 to 2.3-15.
