Norwood signs Power Defender Tom McCallum

The Norwood Football Club is excited to announce the signing of Tom McCallum for the 2025 Season.

McCallum – a 20-year-old 193cm defender – heads to The Parade after two seasons on Port Adelaide’s AFL list.

Originally from Clarence in Tasmania, McCallum was taken with Pick 36 in the 2022 AFL Draft.

He started Pre-Season with Norwood on Monday.

“I feel great about signing with Norwood, it was great pulling the new colours on last night,” McCallum said.

“I have a couple of mates that already play at Norwood in George McLeod and Dom White, and I know about the club’s rich history. I am looking forward to getting stuck in.

“I went through the junior pathways in Tasmania with George and Dom, I know them well and keen to play alongside them.”

McCallum was drafted as a defender, but prided himself on his versatility, playing a combination of defense, forward and wing with the Magpies across his 30 SANFL matches in 2023 and 2024.

“I can play that medium defender, tall or small role, but I can push up onto the wing as well which I played a lot at Port this season,” he said.

“I like to use my speed and overhead marking ability, but I also do like to play a lock down role.”

After a delayed start to 2024 due to an ankle injury, McCallum averaged 11 disposals, three marks and 2.6 tackles across his 13 matches, while also kicking three goals for the season.

Against North Adelaide this season, he had 16 disposals, kicked two goals and laid five tackles in his best performance for the season.

Norwood Football Operations Manager Richard Kelly welcomed the former Power defender to the club

“We think Tom is a great fit for our club,” he said.

“We love his versatility, it’s a great trait in modern football. He played some really good games for the Magpies in 2024 and we are excited to see what he can do in Norwood colours next season.”

McCallum said he enjoyed the lifestyle in Adelaide.

“It’s a great city, it’s a lot more chilled compared to some other major cities which I like,” he said.

“It feels like a larger Hobart, which is good. It’s easy to get around, I love getting down to the beach, so I am looking forward to staying in Adelaide and getting stuck in with Norwood.”
