John Inglis 12/7/1941 to 13/4/2026
The Norwood Football Club is saddened by the passing of former player and club Life Member John Inglis.
John Inglis was a member of the 1954 and 1955 State schoolboy teams. From Norwood High School, Inglis played for Norwood’s Junior Colts in 1957, followed by the Senior Colts in 1958.
He made his League debut early in 1959, and was rated the club’s best junior in 1960 and the most consistent backman the following season.
A vigorous and determined defender, he played in the 1960 and 1961 grand finals as a half-back flanker.
Inglis proved to be an outstanding utility during his career, also playing admirably as a ruck-rover and a centreman.
Probably best remembered for his close marking and long clearing kicks, he was named best utility in 1966 and 1968, and most consistent in 1967.
After retiring from league football, he was appointed Captain-Coach of the North Whyalla Football Club.
His father, John “Jack” Inglis Sr (nicknamed “Basher”) also played League football for Norwood (1937-40, 45 Games).
Our thoughts are with the Inglis family during this time.
Rest in Peace.
