U18s winning streak comes to an end

Norwood’s three-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon, going down to the top of the table Central District at X Convenience Oval. 

It was a big opportunity for the Redlegs to take a scalp, and get closer to the top four, but the Bulldogs proved too strong in the 14.10-94 to 11.14-80 result.

It was a tight battle for most of the afternoon, with the Redlegs trailing by just five points at the final break.

The Bulldogs kicked a decisive four unanswered goals to start the final quarter to leap out to a match-high 30-point lead.

Norwood had one more punch to throw, and booted the final three goals of the game, but ran out of time to cause any further damage, falling short by 14 points.

Joseph Nak kicked three goals for Norwood, while State U18 player Kai Ivins and Tom Waugh kicked two each.

Ivins finished with 24 disposals, five clearances, and two goals from five scoring shots.

Thomas Gribben and Will Tanner each had 25 disposals, the most on the ground. Gribben took seven marks in defence, while Tanner took 10 marks, and kicked a goal.

Earlier in the day, the Redlegs went down to the Bulldogs by 27 points in the U16s.
