Norwood claim 56-point win against Glenelg

NORWOOD’s women team have made a massive statement on the verge of their fourth straight finals campaign after defeating Glenelg by 56-points at the Parade on Saturday morning.

It was a vintage performance with Norwood’s dominating in each area of the ground and making it count on the all-important scoreboard.

Livewire forward Matilda Zander handed the Redlegs the perfect start, crumbing the ball expertly to run around on her right to kick truly through the big sticks.

Zander then turned provider as she set up Norwood’s second of the match with a sharp handball to Kate Fenton who was reliable as always to kick the second.

The Redlegs licked two more goals for the quarter to keep the Bays goalless and set up a 24-point lead at the first break.

After missing a couple of opportunities early in the second, a beautiful piece of ruck work from Leah Cutting set up star midfielder Najwa Allen to read the tap and kicked truly from 25 metres.

Allen was again in the thick of the action as she set up Jade Davies to kick Norwood’s sixth of the contest and had Norwood a 39-point lead at the main break.

Norwood’s defensive pressure and ability to work around the ground was something the Bays could not match.

Accurate forward Lindsay Bigg kicked her first of the contest 10 minutes into the third term with a set shot from 35 metres, before Vice-Captain Sophie Armitstead kicked her first to extend the margin to 55.

The Redlegs finished off the job with Mattea Breed kicking her first late in the Premiership quarter.

Despite keeping the Bays goalless for three quarters, Glenelg kicked a consolation goal in the last term as Norwood ran out winners by 56.

It was a dominant performance by the Lady Legs who now set their sights of Finals Football when they take on West Adelaide this weekend.
