Legs lose thriller to Bays

NORWOOD has suffered a shock one-point loss to the undefeated Bays at Coopers Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Leading by as much as 47-points early in the third term, the Redlegs were stunned as Glenelg piled on eight second half goals to keep their undefeated streak in-tact.

The Redlges were irresistible in the first half with their pressure around the football breathtaking, as they controlled proceedings sending shock waves into the Bays camp.

Captain Matthew Nunn, Mitch Grigg and Nik Rokahr set the tone for Norwood in the middle as they combined for five goals and found plenty of the ball generating several inside 50 entries.

Despite leading at the half, the Legs were slightly wasteful posting 8.9 to Glenelg’s 2.3.

In what was a massive second half, Grigg kicked Norwood’s ninth and his third as they surged to a 47-point lead.

However, as good teams do, Glenelg responded piling on five majors to only trail by 16-points at the final change.

With all to play for Liam McBean who was well held all day by Michael Talia, popped up to kick his second of the game and provide the Bays all the momentum heading into the final 15 minutes of play.

Once Luke Reynolds and Toby Pink goaled for Glenelg, they suddenly led by two-points with five minutes left on the clock.

Norwood thought they had it won when forward Cole Gerloff swooped to soccer on the loose ball, only to have his desperate effort touched by Bays defender Sam Durdin, who flew across his boot to get a hand on the ball.

It would be the first of three significant acts from Durdin, who then clunked two huge contested marks as Norwood continued to surge in the frantic final minutes.

Unfortunately for Norwood and their fans they fell by one-point it what was a tough encounter against the League’s pacesetters.

Norwood captain Matthew Nunn returned from a hamstring strain to register a game-high 29 disposals, eight tackles and six clearances but blotted his copy book with 2.4 in front of goal.

Nik Rokahr had 23 disposals for the Legs while Mitch Grigg was influential in the first half with his 17 disposals, three goals and eight tackles.
