Six Legs call time on their career

The Norwood Football Club would like to advise its members and supporters that six Redlegs have officially called time on their careers.

A fortnight ago, Dual Magarey Medallist Mitch Grigg announced his retirement from SANFL football after 156 games.

Since then, the club has had a further five retirees.

Leading goalkicker in 2011 and now 2021, Cameron Shenton will also hang up the boots after 118 games kicking 109 goals.

Shenton featured for Norwood during two stints after being drafted to St Kilda in 2012. His line-breaking ability and versatility will be missed as we congratulate Cameron for a fantastic career in the red and blue.

Dual Michael Taylor Medallist Brad McKenzie will also retire effective immediately. McKenzie arrived at The Parade in 2017 after playing 37 games for North Melbourne from 2012-2016.

McKenzie started life at Norwood playing through the midfield before a switch to defence saw him recognised as one of the League’s best intercept markers.

The 27-year-old finishes up with two Best and Fairest and two selections in the Advertiser Team of the Year in 2019 and 2020.

One of Norwood’s favourite sons, Paul Puopolo will officially call time on his career at The Parade after 83 games kicking 21 goals.

‘Pup’ started with Norwood in 2007 and worked his way to the AFL winning three Premierships with the Hawthorn Football Club in 2013,14 and 15.

He returned to Norwood in 2021 and made his mark, exciting the fans weekly which saw him take two fantastic marks in Round 7 and 13.

Michael Talia joined the Redlegs ahead of the 2018 SANFL Season. An experienced campaigner, Talia played 16 games in his first at The Parade, leading the defensive line along with Alex Georgiou and Jace Bode.

Talia amassed a total of 44 senior games throughout four seasons including the 2018 SANFL Grand Final.

CEO James Fantasia thanked all six players for their commitment and determination each time they donned the red and blue.

“It is always a difficult time of year farewelling players and Richard, Michael, Brad, Cameron, Mitch and Paul have been highly-valued and popular members of the playing group,” Fantasia said.

“Each of these boys has brought something different each time they have stepped onto the field and should be proud of what they have achieved throughout their time spent here at Norwood.

“On behalf of the club, we thank them for their contributions and wish them every success for their future endeavours.”
