NORWOOD has unveiled its SANFLW leadership group for the upcoming 2022 season, with Captain Alison Ferrall to head up a six-player group.
Ferrall will be joined in the leadership group by once again 2020/21 Best and Fairest winner and Vice-Captain Sophie Armitstead as well as incoming youngster Jade Halfpenny.
Halfpenny will join the leadership group for the first time after spending the past three seasons at the Norwood Football Club. Voted as Deputy Vice-Captain, Halfpenny’s contribution, dedication, and leadership both on and off the field are highly regarded by her teammates and coaches.
Jade Halfpenny, the daughter of past player Warren Halfpenny, has notched up 22 games in two seasons for Norwood and will look to put her best foot forward as now a senior leader of the football club.
The trio will be joined alongside upcoming youngster Sarah Branford, Tess Maple and Shenae Walker.
Continuing Captain Ferrall said she cannot wait to lead the team again in 2022 and believes Sophie, Jade, Sarah, Tess and Shenae are fantastic individuals who will no doubt help improve the side this season especially with the Development League introduced.
“Being named captain for the Norwood Football Club once again is very special to me,” Ferrall said.
“I’ve really grown as a captain the past two seasons, and I’m excited to take that experience into the upcoming season.
“The larger leadership group will take it to another level this season.
“We all have strengths that we bring to the team(s) and are very passionate about our footy family.
“Jade Halfpenny being named as deputy Vice Captain is a testament to herself and the work she has put in and am excited to see and help her develop as a leader.
“I am also looking forward to working with Tess, Sarah and Shenae and welcome them to the Leadership Group for 2022.”
Mat Creeper - Senior Women's Coach“With a bigger squad in 2022, we thought the timing was right to bring in a few extras plus a few emerging leaders we see as the future of the football club,” Creeper said.
LEGS SANFLW Head Coach Mat Creeper said he had full confidence the six-person leadership group would serve the club this next season.
“With a bigger squad in 2022, we thought the timing was right to bring in a few extras plus a few emerging leaders we see as the future of the football club,” Creeper said.
“Ali maintains her role as Captain of the club, as does Sophie Armitstead who will continue as Vice-Captain.
“Jade Halfpenny will step up to the Deputy Vice-Captain role in 2022. She’s an up-and-coming talent and has had a tremendous pre-season so we can’t wait to see her in action this year.
“Sarah Branford, Tess Maple and Shenae Walker round out our leaders for this season. Everyone loves them and we believe they can make a real difference to our playing group this season.”
