Round 8 Underage Reports

Coming off the back of a good win against South Adelaide, we went into the game knowing the level of competition required to secure a win.

We asked the playing group to buy into the Norwood brand of football for four quarters and that is what we saw the players deliver on. Norwood led the game at every break and looked dangerous every time we got the ball inside our forward 50. Inaccuracy in front of goal (9 goals 12 behinds) prevented us from extending the margin as much as we would like, however, we could not question the player’s intent and desire to compete throughout.

Brayden Rachwal led our forward line as he kicked 3 goals two behinds and had 9 marks. Brandon Mu played the pressure forward role well as he kicked two goals, had five marks and laid four tackles. Playing through the midfield Walls and Bradford competed diligently and were both able to impact the scoreboard with 27 disposals 1 goal and 19 disposals one goal respectively.

With our college players currently not available for selection, it is excellent to see the depth of talent in Norwoods U18s program. Players continue to demonstrate the key qualities of being a Norwood player and compete hard each week. We will look to continue our good form as we take on undefeated North Adelaide this coming week.

We headed out on Elizabeth on Saturday to take on Central District. It was always going to be a challenge as out of all the clubs we get hit hard losing players to college. As frustrating as it is and as bad as the result looked, we were able to provide more opportunities for players to experience wearing the red and blue.

We started off the week, we introduced 6 x Eyre Penninsula boys to the group, and we always knew it might take some time for them to find their feet and adjust to the speed of the game. To Centrals credit, they were a polished unit as they only lost a couple to college. Continuity is important in these grades and unfortunately not once this year we have made less than seven changes.

Centrals were too quick, to clean and executed their skills at a higher level than us.

On a bright note, for us, it was great to see Oz Richardson from Tumby Bay take huge steps in his development as he has a bright future ahead of him. Anthony Mustaca worked tirelessly all day. Oz and Anthony had a total of 15 tackles between them.

James Van Wyk is starting to learn the art of being a ruckman, so we are seeing improvement from players. Overall, we need to understand at this level to be competitive no matter what team we put out.

We take on North for the next two weeks who are top, hopefully, we can put up a better showing and see some improvement.
