Round 9 Underage Reports

In a wet weather game at Prospect Oval, Norwood Under 18s played against the undefeated North Adelaide. We know the task would require four quarters of strong Norwood Football to get over the line. Despite the poor conditions, the Norwood players were switched on from start to finish. Norwood finished with 27 more tackles than North Adelaide, showing the player’s desire to hunt the opposition and play the conditions well.

Van Wyk led the way from the ruck, finishing with a game-high nine clearances. Bradford, Rahui, and Tomney all played important roles in the middle of the ground. Damon Pitt led the way in the forward line, kicking 3.2 and completing four tackles. Williams showed his ability to harass opposition players in our forward line, laying 10 tackles as a small forward. Bishop, Mu and Rachwal all ended the day with two goals. Laas, who flew over from the EP for the game, finished with 1 goal in his first game for the club this year.

An excellent team performance resulted in Norwood singing the song at the end of the game. Winning the last three games on the road, we will look to continue this form as we return to The Parade to take on the Rooster again this weekend.

On the weekend we took on the Roosters who sit pretty at the top. After a tough week, we were looking at a better showing and being more competitive.

We knew it was going to be tough, but the boys approached the game with a real positive mindset. North is a strong team and controlled the ball early, lucky they kicked inaccurately. We managed to get one late in the first quarter and you could tell the boy’s energy was up.

I felt the rest of the game was an even contest around the ball, but North’s polish and skill level was much higher than ours and that was always going to be the difference.

We matched them in tackles which is a small win, our contested ball is improving each week and the real focus is around not being beaten in contested marking.

Due to injuries and the college season, we were able to play more Eyre Peninsula players and introduced two Under 15 players. On the weekend our U/16 side had a total of five x U/15s and six Eyre Peninsula kids playing. The boys are starting to group well considering every week we have so many changes.

We will keep looking for little wins along the way.
