Norwood FC Business Lunch – April 2023

Norwood Function Room - On The Parade - 4 Woods St, Norwood SA 5067

The Norwood Business Lunch welcomes Alex Carey as our guest speaker on April 28

SA local Alex Carey has represented Australia in 19 Test Matches, 64 ODIs and 38 T20 Matches, and will Tour England in the coming months as part of the 2023 Ashes Series.

This will be an Ashes Series and an NFC Business Lunch to remember.

Head along to the Wolf Blass Community Centre at the Norwood Football Club on Friday, April 28 to hear from the Australian wicketkeeper batsman on his professional career, the recent Indian Test series and preparation for the upcoming Ashes.

Alex’s story is one of persistence as he navigated the Australian sporting landscape to play both cricket and AFL (GWS Giants) at the top level.

As a teenager, Alex played with both the Glenelg football and cricket clubs, and was included in the AIS AFL Academy intake for 2008, and advanced to play for SA in the 2009 AFL U18 Championships.

Deciding to pursue his football career, Carey turned down a rookie contract offer from the SACA and moved to Sydney in 2010 to join AFL expansion team GWS Giants, who were playing in the TAC Cup in preparation for their entry into the AFL in 2012.

He captained the side and won the Best and Fairest award during his time at GWS, but returned to  SA and switched codes again to pursue his cricket career with Glenelg’s SACA Grade Cricket Club in the 2012–13 season.

He quickly rose through the ranks, earning a rookie contract with SACA, making his Sheffield Shield Debut, and in 2018 he made his Australian ODI Debut.

Carey made his Test debut in December 2021 during the 2021–22 Ashes series.

In December 2022, Carey scored his maiden Test century during the Boxing Day Test against South Africa, becoming only the second wicketkeeper (after Rod Marsh) to score a century at the MCG.

Come along to the next NFC Business Lunch on Friday, April 28 and hear Carey talk about his persistence as he rose through the ranks of professional sport, as well as some insight into recent international series and the upcoming Ashes.

Guests will enjoy canapés on arrival, followed by mains and a 3-hour beverage package.
