Captains Message – Matthew Nunn

To the Norwood faithful,

Unfortunately for all of us, season 2021 did not turn out the way we had hoped. As much as losing hurts, the amount of growth and resilience showed by the whole club should give you great confidence in the direction we are going.

Over the course of the year, we were faced with multiple challenges and were able to come out the other side better from it. A few bad losses and multiple injuries at the time were tough to swallow, but what we learnt as the year went on was that all these challenges build character and trust within the group.

As much as this season wasn’t a success on the biggest stage, it was undoubtedly a success in the growth of the discipline and standards of the playing group. Twig (Jade Rawlings) has come in and made an incredible impact on the whole club. Introducing a game style where it doesn’t matter who is playing, what oval or what the weather is doing. All that matters is we trust each and every person has done the work to turn up and play their role. With such a young list with endless upside, it fills me with excitement for what is to come for the NFC.

To the players retiring or leaving the club, thank you for everything you have done on and off the field. I know I can speak for everyone in saying you will be dearly missed and your contributions have left an amazing impression on everyone involved.

Lastly, to you the fans, I speak on behalf of the whole NFC in saying thank you for your undivided support, passion and care throughout what has been another challenging year. I apologize that we weren’t able to bring home a premiership but I hope you can see that we are striving to get better at every possible chance to put ourselves in a position for that to happen. Your support throughout the year has not gone unnoticed, highlighted with the Fortis in Procella march for our final game at The Parade. An incredible way to recognise the generosity people have shown to the NFC. I’d also like to thank the volunteers who put in countless hours each week helping in multiple areas. Without the dedication and commitment of each one of you, we would not be the great club we are today.

I look forward to seeing everyone cheering on the red and blue for season 2022.
