U18 Match Review Round7 v South Adelaide

By Chris O’Connor

This week was our final match of the first round of games and saw us head down the highway to Noarlunga against a competitive South Adelaide side. We started strongly again this week and put goals on the board very quickly – led from dominant stoppage work and clean use from our winger Michael Cavallaro.

In the second and third quarter, we took our foot off the gas and allowed South back into the game – perhaps just a little complacent and lazy. Coming into three quarter time, the Panthers had all the momentum however were inaccurate in front of goal. To our credit, the boys showed exceptional grit and character to stand tall under real heat and overrun them. Led by our dominant ruckman in the second half Nathan Hearing, Henry Nelligan popped up in the final quarter to give us first use.

Our clear best on ground came from Daniel Fairbrother who was a defensive wall down back with seven intercept marks. With plenty of repeat entries late South Fairbrother was exceptional, both defensively while also rolling quick to counterattack.

Heading into the second half of the season we sit equal top of the ladder at 6-1, but we know our best football is still yet to come and we will continue to demand better from ourselves and avoid being happy with just winning.

This week is our first home game in over a month and the first of the triple header at the Parade – starting at 1:25pm.
