Thanks to Coopers Brewery the Norwood Business Lunch welcomes Glenn Cooper AM, Chairman of Coopers Brewery as guest speaker in May

Glenn is the current Chairman of Coopers Brewing, Australia’s largest independent brewing company. Born in 1950 and educated at Prince Alfred College, Glenn is a fifth generation Cooper.

Glenn started off his working career by gaining qualifications in electronic engineering, and later in computing and marketing. After his completion of studies, Glenn entered the computing field with a company called Anderson Digital Equipment, later moving to Melbourne to take up the new role of National Distribution Manager.

In 1983 Glenn returned to South Australia to set up a private business in computer sales and services, which quickly grew to a turnover in excess of $3.5m, with offices in Adelaide and Brisbane.

In 1990, Glenn would finally join the family brewery and held the responsibility of the Sales and Marketing Director.

In this role he oversaw the launch of numerous products to the Coopers beer range, including Coopers Mild Ale, Coopers Dark Ale, Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale, Coopers Lager and most recently Coopers Clear.

In his keynote presentation Glenn will cover what drove the impressive growth in Sales and Market Share and the overall Cooper Brewery Expansion across the last few decades. He will share the strategic planning behind some of the famous brand marketing that helped transform Coopers into a household name.

Glenn will cover “The Strategic Coopers Advantages”, critical in helping Coopers become the business it is today.

He will take us inside the boardroom and provide insight as to how Coopers was ultimately saved from the attempted Lion Nathan takeover.

Finally, Glenn will share his personal views of doing business and the Coopers Family Business values that have been instrumental in their business success.

Whilst Glenn is now retired, he remains Chairman and Ambassador for Coopers Brewery and his focus is to continually expand the company and retain Coopers as a privately held family company.

Glenn is also on several other family-owned company boards in Australia, including Bundaberg Brewed Drinks and Haymes Paints Australia. He was also formerly the Chairman of the Adelaide Fringe Committee (1994-1999) and Chairman of the Adelaide Convention and Tourism Authority (1998-2006).

In 2002 Glenn received a Centenary Medal and in 2005 was awarded a Member of the General Division of the Order of Australia AM for services to South Australia and the Arts.
