NORWOOD are delighted to announce the signing of forward/ruckman Codey Ellison for the 2020 SANFL Statewide Season.
The 26-year-old, played 21 SANFL games for the Panthers in 2016 and 17, kicking 15 majors in his time spent at Noarlunga.
In 2018 Ellison joined Reynella playing 16 games before joining McLaren in 2019 playing 18 games and kicking 21 goals.
The Redlegs are hoping the 199cm 26-year-old can provide a target inside 50 for Norwood in 2020 while assisting rucks Sam Baulderstone and Henry Crauford.
Football Operations Manager, Mark Ross said Ellison will boost Norwood’s forward options after impressing in both the Southern Football League and Great Southern Football League.
Ross continued in saying Ellison is a versatile player in which Coach Jarrod Cotton could use in any way needed.
“Codey is a versatile player who can play a variety of positions including ruck, wing and forward,” Ross said.
“We as a club were eager to get Codey on board after strong performances for McLaren and Reynella.”
“Codey will add a marking target up forward and hopefully will be able to finish off the good work from both our defenders and midfielders.”
After spending two years playing country football for McLaren, the 26-year old said the hunger to play at the elite level was still there and saw Norwood as the perfect place to re-ignite his football journey.
“I think after two years out of the SANFL system, you miss the professional environment that a SANFL club gives you,” said Ellison.
“After speaking to a few good mates at Norwood and after initial discussions with the coaches and staff, I knew Norwood would be a good fit for me in 2020.”
“2020 for me presents an opportunity to re-ignite my football career, so I’m really looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait for pre-season to get started.”
