R3 Teams: SANFLW, Development League & Trials

Norwood’s SANFLW sides travel out to Elizabeth on Saturday to take on Central District at X Convenience Oval.

The Round 3 SANFLW match will kick off at 12pm, while the Development League game commences at 10am.

Kiana Lee and Lauren Smith come into the SANFLW line up this week, both making their club debuts.

Redlegs SANFLW Captain Alison Ferrall returns to the side this weekend from injury for what will be her 49th match for the club, while Grace Mulvahil also comes into the team.

Smith will face her former side in Central District – playing 20 SANFLW games over the past four seasons with the Dogs – while Lee is a former Woodville-West Torrens product.

Lee (who played 24 SANFLW games with the Eagles from 2019 to 2021) has been in strong form for Norwood’s Development League across half forward in Rounds 1 and 2, while Smith will line up on the half back line.

GWS recruit Meghan Gaffney is out of the side with illness, as is Rosette Zerella with a back injury, while Emily Newton and Stephanie Simmonds are the other changes from last week’s match against the Panthers.

Simmonds and Newton will both suit up in the Development League match.

The SANFLW League side will be hoping to change its fortunes from the opening two rounds, losing both matches by a combined seven points.

Round 1 was a two-point thriller against North Adelaide, followed by a five-point loss against South Adelaide last weekend despite a strong last-quarter fightback.

Centrals sit sixth on the SANFLW table with a 1-1 win/loss record, claiming a 13-point victory against the Eagles in Round 1, followed by a heavy loss to Sturt last week (8.8-56 to 2.7-19).

Norwood’s Development League side hasn’t put a foot wrong thus far in 2023, sitting on top of the ladder with a 2-0 record (alongside West Adelaide) and a strong percentage of 81.8%.

Central District are yet to claim a victory in the Development League this season.
