History

Remember Rocky Roberts 100th goal in 1983?

Elizabeth Oval is a very difficult place to go and win a game of football… in fact Norwood had won just seven of 32 matches at the venue between 1978 and 2011.

In a 15-game stretch from 1978 to 1995, Norwood registered one win… this game was Round 21, 1983. The day Neville “Rocky” Roberts kicked 10 goals to bring up his season’s ton, and help the Redlegs to a 21.10-136 to 14.11-95 victory.

Roberts entered the day with 90 goals to his name for the 1983 season, and booted the 10 majors required to reach the magical 100.

He became just the second Norwood player to kick 100 goals in a season. The first being Bruce Schultz in 1941.

Roberts and Schultz remain the only two players to kick 100 goals in a season for the Redlegs.

Norwood and Central District have met 58 times at Elizabeth Oval, with the Bulldogs holding a 33-25 record.
