After a 2-7 start to the year, many would have thought it impossible at the half-way point of the season, but yes, Norwood is in this Sunday’s Preliminary Final.
The Redlegs have been riding an incredible wave in season 2025, starting 0-5, getting to half-way 2-7, going win-loss-win-loss for 10 weeks, winning their last three to make finals, and turning that three wins into five in the Elimination and Semi Finals.
Take a breath after all that, and Norwood finds itself in a Prelim against Glenelg at the Adelaide Oval. Make sure you are there at 3:15pm with as much red and blue gear you can find… and if you need more, Norwood’s merch booth at the Southern End gates.
The Redlegs are ready to take on the Tigers in a massive clash to decide who will face Sturt in next Sunday’s SANFL Grand Final.
Norwood once again take in an unchanged squad from the first two successful finals, with Josh Gillow, Liam Ling and Jack Saunders listed as the in’s on the extended bench.
After battling injuries and form throughout the early and middle parts of the season, Norwood has had an outstanding last five weeks to make finals, and win the Elimination Final against Central District and last Sunday’s Semi against the Crows. Yes, their first victories against top five teams this season.
Norwood coach Jade Sheedy said his side was playing their best football at the right time of the year.
“We have played good patches of footy this year, but (Sunday against the Crows) was our best 120 minutes we’ve played,” he said.
“It’s hard to play 120 minutes of good footy, teams are well coached, they don’t allow you to play your way for long. It was pleasing to consistently put pressure on opposition for a long period of time.
“Momentum is a funny thing, it’s off the back of contest, how we train, what we value in games, what we value as a footy club, and rewarding the small things in the games that don’t get noticed.”
Sheedy said the reigning premiers were a tough opposition to face on Sunday. The Tigers defeated Norwood by 43 points in Round 4 and 16 points in Round 11.
“They are powerful everywhere. They have great forwards, a great midfield, good experience in their back half, they can mark and transition, they are strong at contest, they are a brilliant side.”
