Norwood’s U16 Boys side came charging home at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval on Saturday, defeating Woodville-West Torrens by 18 points to secure a second win of the season.

It had been a long time between drinks for the Redlegs, who secured their first victory back in Round 2.

Norwood trailed by 24 points at the main break, before kicking seven unanswered goals to set up a 12.3-75 to 8.9-57 win, Connor McLean’s second win as coach.

The winless Eagles started nicely, kicking five goals to two in the first half. Rather than slowly chipping the margin back, Norwood went bang with six goals in the third term to transform the four-goal half time deficit, into an 11-point lead at the final break.

Mitch Weaving’s third goal gave Norwood an 18-point lead early in the final term, but the Eagles managed to chip the margin back to just six points with eight minutes to go.

Late goals to Harry Summerton and Cailan Rachwal sealed the deal for the Redlegs.

Kalani Fraser was best on ground, with 26 disposals, two goals, nine clearances and 10 tackles.

Norwood will chase their third win for the season against Sturt at Coopers Stadium on Friday night.

Norwood’s U18s couldn’t make the most of its chances in difficult conditions at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval on Saturday, going down to Woodville-West Torrens by 12 points.

The Redlegs registered 21-more inside 50m entries than the Eagles, but could only manage nine scoring shots from their 57 trips inside their attacking zone.

It was a low-scoring game at Woodville, and the Redlegs had plenty of opportunity to put themselves in a winning position, but eventually the home side round out 7.9-51 to 6.3-39 winners.

The lead never extended past 12 points in a close encounter. The Eagles led by six points at quarter time, and managed the first goal of the second term to make it that two-goal buffer.

Norwood kicked the next three goals to edge its way in front early in the third term with a Fergus Myall goal. The Eagles steadied with two of the next three goals, including one on the three quarter time siren to make it a nine-point game at the final break.

Masen Jones goaled three minutes into the last term to make it just three points, but Norwood couldn’t get the go-ahead goal. The Eagles had the final four scoring shots, three behinds and a goal to seal the deal.

Eddie Graham had 31 disposals for Norwood, while Mason Tambe had 29 and Will Tanner 24.
