Norwood remains a real and live chance to play SANFL finals in 2025, but must make the most of its remaining three matches against West Adelaide, North Adelaide and Port Adelaide to do so.
The Redlegs kick off this block of must-win matches this Saturday, hosting the Bloods at Coopers Stadium as the club celebrates its Regional Zone of the Eyre Peninsula with its annual EP inspired Pre-Match Function.
Norwood had a comprehensive 104-point win against Westies back in Round 8, which was a key date in the Redlegs starting to turn their season around. Norwood now has five wins on the board and are locked in a competitive battle with Port Adelaide, the Eagles and Roosters to claim the only remaining place in the top five.
Long-time holders of the fifth spot, the Eagles, lost their sixth straight match last weekend and the Magpies were able to leapfrog both them and the Redlegs to become the current incumbent of the finals place. Sturt, Glenelg, Adelaide and Central District have safely locked away their top four finishes, so the race is on to round out the top five.
Norwood could potentially be in the top five by the end of Round 17, if results go the Redlegs way.
The Redlegs welcome back running defender Cooper Murley, who missed last week’s match against the Crows with a hamstring injury.
Izaak Twelftree will miss Round 17 with his ongoing groin injury, while Tyson Walls is out with a knee injury and Oscar Hodge will return to the Reserves.
Among the Ins are potential debutants Balyn O’Brien and Jack Aherne, as well as Daniel Gauci, Murley, Oliver Sanders and Jack Saunders who are named on the extended bench.
O’Brien is a current U18, who’s had a great season in defence, which led to his selection in SA’s U18 State side which recently won the National Championships. He played Reserves in Round 14, and was selected to make his League debut last week, but had to withdraw due to illness.
20-year-old Tasmanian, Aherne booted five goals in the Reserves last week to bring his season tally to 19, which ranks in the top 10 goal kickers in the Reserves competition
Matthew Ling, who was best on ground in Round 16 with a career high 35 disposals, will play his 50th game this Saturday.
