A slow start and a wayward finish cost Norwood dearly in Round 5 of the SANFL Women’s competition, as North Adelaide was able to hold its nerve to claim a nine-point win at Coopers Stadium.

Both sides squandered chance after chance in a frustrating first half, as the Roosters came storming out of the blocks in the first term to register the first four scoring shots of the game. Luckily for the Redlegs, North missed all four and remained in the contest at quarter time.

The second term was a similar tale, as the Roosters continued to dominate field position but again could only manage three more behinds before half time.

Again, lucky to be in the contest, Norwood trailed 0.7-7 to 0.2-2 at the main break, but eventually North readjusted its radar and broke through with back to back goals in the first five minutes of the third term.

Aprille Crooks and Ashleigh George’s goals put Norwood in big trouble, trailing by 17 points.

Mykaela Walker straightened Norwood out and got the Redlegs on the board soon after with their first goal of the afternoon.

It was 11 points at the final break, but Keira Copeland gave the Roosters the ascendency with the first goal of the fourth term to make it an 18-point buffer.

With their back’s against the wall, Norwood lifted and found the answering goal through Steph Simmonds, making it 12 points with six minutes remaining.

The Redlegs did all they could to will themselves over the line, but their conversion in front of goal let them down with three misses in the final minutes.

Unfortunately for the Redlegs it was their first loss since Round 2, but they remain in third place on the ladder with a 3-2 record.

In Round 6 Norwood take on Central District in a game that’s currently scheduled for Richmond Oval (subject to change due to the water damage on the playing surface).
